Government Relations is important for the development, advocacy, and communication of the industry’s positions on a wide range of issues. MACCA works closely with industry on strategies to promote consumer awareness of the positive effects of its products in protecting the environment, saving energy, promoting economic competitiveness, and enhancing quality of life. Also, we develop and maintain relationships with elected and appointed government officials, the media, like-minded non-governmental organizations, and our membership.
Through our state affiliation with the Florida Refrigeration Air Conditioning Contractors Association (FRACCA), a greater number of state legislatures are developing policies that impact our industry as they respond to electricity reliability and environmental challenges. Industry must respond with greater vigilance, thereby requiring additional monitoring and contact with agency officials, state legislators, and staff. Issues include producer “take-back” and recycling of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, indoor environmental quality legislation and regulation, state greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, and state procurement of energy efficiency products. Activities include tracking potential legislation and regulatory actions, participating in and responding to rulemakings, and educating elected and appointed policymakers.
MACCA maintains and supports its advocacy and awareness initiatives through both a public and member-only Internet presence.
